Yes they are, $100 per hour + the cost of the base tune (gotham/vf/katana etc), minimum of 8 hours, plus dyno costs (ie whatever the dyno shop charges you for use of the dyno facility) and travelling expenses (flight/hotel/petrol).
Its usually a two day affair, most delays are caused by either problems at the dyno itself, or on the car, make sure its working correctly before you bring me in, make sure the dyno shop has an available dyno operator, working dyno, with a new wideband or known wideband, boost hookup (for fi cars), and knows how to operate it. You might laugh at this , but you'd be amazed by how often it happens.
Its best to have a bung added to the pre cat exhaust for a wideband, or a permanently mounted wideband, I recommend either the NGK or AEM(bosch) wideband gauges, if they have a serial out or 5V, all the better.
Be warned that most dyno shops i've been too, do not keep track of the condition of their wideband. DynoJets are fine (though its rare for a dynojet to have steady state capabilities), it'll go faster on a DynaPack
I will do more than one car at a time to cut down travelling costs, but it will increase the time needed, and after tuning is finished I usualy need about two hours to finish everything up.
Sometimes i do two visits, one for the ball park tuning, the owner drives it around, and makes notes about any changes needed, then another visit to do 'steady state' or street tuning, this way the car gets some time to settle down and the owner gets a decent impression, it can all be done in one or two contiguous sessions but there are always little things to redo later.
